“Show and Go” Youth Fundraiser
Supporting 2021-2022 Youth Programs
Help us "GO BIG" for our community's youth!
Every year funds raised from the "Show and Go" Car Show are used to help fund a variety of activities aimed at our Riverside youth including scholarships, leadership training, and educational opportunities. Unfortunately COVID has forced the cancelation of both the May 2020 and May 2021 Car Shows. The Riverside East Rotary Foundation is committed to continuing those programs, but we need your help to make it happen! We hope to raise $15,000 in donations by June 1st in order to ensure we can fund our program.
Why we need your help
Since its founding over 20 years ago, the "Show and Go" Car Show has grown to become one of the largest annual events in Riverside. Every year nearly a thousand classic cars take to the streets of Riverside and cruise through our beautiful downtown. Friends and families come down and check out great cars in a safe and friendly environment. And best of all, the funds raised all go back into the community, where they help support local youth programs and dozens of local organizations.
Unfortunately, like so much else, COVID has forced the cancelation of both the May 2020 and the May 2021 Car Shows. While the situation is now improving in Riverside County, current health guidelines do not yet allow for this type of event. And due to uncertaintly over future health guidelines and overlapping with other events, we were not able to secure an alternate date for 2021. This is a big disappointment, and while we look forward to a strong return in 2022, this has left a big gap in our ability to support our programs for this upcoming year. Our local kids have had already had a tough year, and we want to ensure we have the funds to continue our youth programs. That's why we are reaching out to our friends and supporters in the community to help us ensure these programs can continue.
What you're supporting
Scholarships for Riverside Students
Funds from Show and Go are used to provide scholarships to our Riverside kids as they prepare to take on the world. A total of seven scholarships are provided to kids at King, North, and Lincoln High Schools each year. These scholarships are awarded after students go through an application process and judges select the final recipient based on a combination of academic excellence and financial need. An additional scholarship is provided through the Greater Riverside "Dollars for Scholars" program. And finally a scholarship is provided each year to a student of RCC, with a focus on the automotive department.
Sending Kids to RYLA and PRYDE
Every year a group of local high school juniors are sent to RYLA (Rotary Youth Leadership Awards), a camp with a program of leadership training, discussions, inspirational addresses, and social activities designed to enhance personal development, leadership skills and good citizenship.
Additionally a group of local middle school students are sent to PRYDE (Personal Rotary Youth Development Experience), a camp featuring leadership speakers, small group discussions, and recreational activities throughout the weekend including sports, games, and a campfire.
Students of both programs frequently describe them as a life changing experience that broadens their perspectives and brings them closer to their fellow classmates.
Supporting Local Interact Clubs
Interact clubs bring together young people to develop leadership skills throughout the school year. Interactors carry out projects both in the community and with an international focus. Interact clubs are sponsored and mentored at both North and King High Schools with a Lincoln Interact Club soon to be added.
Partnerships with Other Riverside Organizations
Funds from Show and Go are used to support many other local programs and organizations dedicated to youth development. In addition to the above programs, funds from Show and Go are used to support mentorship though Big Brothers and Big Sisters of Inland Empire, foster students through the UCR Guardian Scholars program, an annual Christmas Party and toys for children at the Community Settlement Association, an annual speech contest, decorating Rose Parade Floats, and and much more.
